Description

List of ships arriving at and departing from Cape Coast and Annamaboe in 1778. Arrivals include the sloop, Seahouse, from Whitehaven travelling from Barbados, under Captain Collins; the ship, Lord Germain, from London under Captain Chalmers; the ship, Betsy, from Liverpool and bound for Angola, under Captain Fisher; the ship, Tarter, from Liverpool, under Captain Houghton; the sloop, Dorcas, from Antigua, under Captain Lawson; the ship, Unity, from Liverpool, under Captain Hebbelthwaite; the ship, Constantine, from Bristol, under Captain Robe; the ship, Hero, from London, under Captain Martin; the ship, Peter, from London, under Captain Cleland; the storeship, Simond, from London, under Captain Mackintosh; His Majesty's sloop, Wiezle, under Captain Robertson; the sneau, Briton, from Bristol and bound for Benin, under Captain Hardcastle. Departures include the ship, John, bound for Jamaica under Captain Cazneau; the ship, Betsy under Captain Fisher; the sloop, Senhouse, containing gold and ivory and bound for Liverpool under Captain Collins; the sloop, Dorcas, bound for Antigua under Captain Lawson; the St Germaine, containing gold and ivory and bound for Jamaica under Captain Chalmers; the ship, Tarter, bound for Jamaica under Captain Houghton; the ship, Constantine, bound for Grenada under Captain Robe; the ship, Simond, bound for Grenada under Captain McIntosh; the sneau, Briton; the sneau, Peter, bound for Tobago under Captain Cleland. The list provides the numbers of enslaved people transported by each departing ship, adding up to a total of 3337.
