Description

Captured ships: two ships: St Clement of [St Brieuc] (master Peter Timoyne; prize master John Coene [of Ghent], quartermaster [and Nicholas Goosen, otherwise Niclaes Goosse, lieutenant]; and St Peter (prize master Phillip Juweel quartermaster) of [St Brieuc]

History of St Clement (28 tons): bound from [Bordeaux] to St Brieuc, laden with wine, brandy and prunes, taken on 17/27 November 1673, 5-6 leagues off St Brieuc, by the Flemish (Spanish Netherlands) privateer St Adrian of Ostend, otherwise St Adrien (a snow of 18 lasts, 4 guns, Jan Lennaerts, otherwise John Lenarts, Jean Lenaerts, by-named Van Emden, commanding) and sent in for Ostend, but after 2 days and nights was forced by bad weather and contrary winds to the Isle of Wight, where the ship was retaken on 19/29 November 1673 in St Helens road by [the ketch or] dogger HMS Hopeful Margaret (John Robinson commanding), and brought into Portsmouth;

History of St Peter (18 tons) bound from [?] to St Brieuc, laden with wine, taken about 17/27 November 1673 [off the Sept Iles or St Brieuc?] by the Flemish (Spanish Netherlands) privateer St Adrian of Ostend, otherwise St Adrien (a snow of 18 lasts, 4 guns, Jan Lennaerts, otherwise John Lenarts, Jean Lenaerts, by-named Van Emden, commanding) and sent in for Ostend, but after some time was forced by bad weather and contrary winds into Poole, where seized by port officers about 19/29 November 1673.
