Description

Captured ship: De Valck or Falcon of Stockholm (master Johan Stanke or Stanueke).

History: a Swedish merchant ship (200 tons) bound from Bordeaux to Stockholm, laden with wine, prunes and paper; taken on 31 July / 10 August 1697 off Land's End by HMS Britannia (William Buckingham commanding) and brought into Plymouth.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 10:

  • [CP 1-CP 2]: interrogatories, three examinations;
  • [CP 3-CP 6]: four sets of claims to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in Stockholm and Elsinore;
  • [CP 7-CP 8]: two attestations in Danish, sent into court from Kristianstad and Helsingborg;
  • [CP 9]: abstracts and translations of the 31 ship's papers.
  • [CP 10]: docket, still attached to the ship's papers

Ship’s Papers numbered SP 1-SP 31, bills of lading, ship's passes, certificate, attestation as to the vessel's ownership, steersman's accounts.

[Decision: condemned 7 October 1697, appealed]
