Administrative / biographical background

English Heritage's Finance Committee was established in 1992 with the remit of advising the Commission with respect to the following matters:

a) the annual budget b) first quarter and half year review of the budget c) post-year-end review of budgetsd) the corporate plane) the annual public expenditure survey submission f) any major changes to the financial policies and management system g) any proposed commercial financial arrangements.

The committee usually comprised between three and five members, all of whom were Commissioners of English Heritage. The Chairman of English Heritage chaired the committee, and meetings were attended by senior staff including the Chief Executive and the Directors of Finance, Regions, Conservation, and Corporate Services. In 2001, the Finance Committee was disbanded and its functions taken over by the new Business Committee.
