A newsletter from RY [Robert Yard] to Lord Ambassador [Joseph] Williamson, dated at Whitehall, mentioning: an undertaking at the General Court of the new East India Company to discuss uniting with the old company; King [William III] at the House of Peers [Lords]; a dispute over the election for Heslemere [Haslemere, Surrey] resolved in favour of Sir Theophilus Oglethorpe against Mr Bridges' [George Rodney Brydges'] petition; [House of] Commons committee hearing on the navy, mentioning an Admiralty ruling dated of 12 September 1695, Henry Priestman's allowance as commander-in- chief at Sally [Salé, Barbary] with [HMS] Bonaventure in 1684; engrossing bill for enlarging trade with Russia; Gracious speech read; supply, and 15,000 men to be employed for the summer and winter guard of the sea for 1699; proposal to hold a General court of the old East India Company concerning a merger with the new company. Adds news from Dublin [Ireland]: royal assent for raising £120,000 on land, bring revenues to £135,000; additional duty on woollen manufactures; bill about linen manufacture; and prorogation of parliament.
