Description

Folios 12-13. RY [Robert Yard] reporting to Sir Jo [Joseph] Williamson [Nine Years' War]. A new plot [against king William] might have been discovered, and several persons have been taken up and examined by the Lords Justices. There is one Porter, one of the forty clerks under the Six Clerks in Chancery, one Robinson, whom they call captain, Robarts, and a few more. It seems their business was to correspond with the court at St Germains [Saint-Germain, near Paris], and their papers were seized, wherein they pretend to give King James an account of the many [Jacobites] friends he has in England, and of their readiness to join with him. Price was the messenger that used to carry the letters to and from France. People are very angry with the five men of war commanded by Captain Harlow [Thomas Harlowe], who let Pointy [de Pointis] escape. Letters from Ireland say that the House of Lords have rejected the bill for barring remainders and have stopped the bill about the outlawries.Vice Admiral [David] Mitchell has gone from Spithead to cruise with a squadron of 17 men of war, English and Dutch.
