Description

Folios 2-3. Ja [James] Vernon writing to Ambassador [Joseph] Williamson, shares his disappointment [over the outcome of the Nine Years' War]. Neither men have received any letters from Ireland, and Vernon doesn't know what the Admiralty will decide to do next. He mentions the ?scandalous' return home of Pointy [French admiral Bernard Desjean, Baron de Pointis], and the forthcoming enquiry into Captn [Captain] Harlow [Thomas Harlowe] and his officers.Lord Rivers [Richard Savage, Earl Rivers] and Mr [?George] Stepney have arrived, wehile the Duke of Ormond [James Butler] is hastening for Ireland.
