May being under sentence of death for piracy on the sole evidence of David Crea prays that Lord Chief Justice Holt, who tried May, examine Stephen Crea, about letters written to him by David Crea in which the latter states his intention to gain his liberty by giving evidence against May. Mentioned are Captain [Henry] Avery; Mr Dan; the Boy Middleton; Sir William Crea in Newcastle upon Tyne [Northumberland]; Mr Terry in Spain; Monsieur Dubart, captain of a French privateer; William Ray formerly a prisoner in Dunkirk now in London; Lieutenant Ryder of HMS England; Captains Francis, Gibson and Vaughan.
