Description

Folios 86-87. From Thomas Wilson. To [Edward] Richardson. Place: Santander.

(1) 'Mr Walton is in Paris his history in this part is too long to relate, and his character so well established as [being the former] Secretary of State to King James in Scotland that laying aside what I have lost he has created me more enemies than I can withstand, God will help me. The misfortunes and disappointments of that prince I attribute to his being patron and protector of all those of our nations who are an abomination to God and Man, which party are so numerous that they prevail over those worthy gentlemen who have suffered for serving King James ll and since his son, a considerable party in England out of jealousy from those vile fellows are rendered odious and incapable of being subjects called spies and how many honest gentlemen has that Prince with him who have both sworn fought etcetera against him are received; more [?are] willing were they not prevented by being Englishmen and men of honour who scorn to associate with that crew'. (2) A letter headed 'Produced upon the examination of Edw [Edward] Richardson 20 May 1722 C[Charles] D[Delafaye]' and addressed to my Lord Duke enquiring whether the King [James lll the Pretender] and the Duke would have any use for ships proposed to be built in Spain by the carpenters Mr [John] Laws brought from England to France.
