Description

Captured ship: Juffrouw Judith Jacoba (master Jan Seylaer) [second capture].

History: a Dutch merchant ship (70 tons, guns, men), bound from Newcastle upon Tyne via Rotterdam to Rochefort, laden with lead and coals; on this route and with the same cargo, the ship had already been captured a few months earlier and has then been restored (see HCA32/120/21). It was taken on 21 July/1 August 1747 near Ushant by the privateer Guernsey (Daniel Perchard commanding) which sailed under French colours, and brought into Guernsey.

  • [CP 1-CP 2]: three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 3]: attestation and claim of mark;
  • [CP 4-CP 6]: 3 sets of attestations, affidavits and translations taken and sealed by the ruling authorities of Rotterdam, between August and September 1747, and brought into court in October 1747;
  • [CP 7-CP 9]: attestation as to papers, and abstract and translation of the ship's papers [all these papers were restored].

[Decision: restored as a Dutch ally 30 November 1747]
