The British National Space Centre (BNSC) was established in 1985 to co-ordinate space policy and programmes. BNSC activities are co-ordinated and funded by a number of government departments, agencies, and bodies. The departments responsible for trade and industry matters been the BNSC's 'host' department and provide the central policy staff including the Director General.
On 23 March 2010 the new UK Space Agency was launched to replace the British National Space Centre and to bring all UK civil space activities under one single management.
