Captured ship: Rising Sun (master Thomas Wilkey).
Nationality: American.
History: bound from Port au Prince, Saint Domingue to Philadelphia, laden with coffee, sugar, cottton and indigo; taken on 19 November 1793 by HMS Penelope (Bartholomew S Rowley commanding) and HMS Hermione (John Hills commanding), and brought into Kingston, Jamaica.
Appellant: Samuel Bayard, the American Agent, on behalf of Peter Torris the supercargo and Messrs James Vanuxem and Henry J Lambaert merchants of Philadelphia.
Respondent: The captors.
Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 15 July 1801 (folios 41-48).
Decision: objection to registrar's report overruled.
