This collection consists of volumes relating to four different expeditions into Africa in the 19th century:
- West Africa Niger Expedition, c1840-1886;
- Zambesi Expedition, 1859-1883;
- East Africa - Kilimanjaro Expedition, 1881-1890;
- Sierra Leone, Boundary Commission, 1890-1893.
