Captured ship: Shepherdess or Bergere of Dieppe, master James Furnechon.
History: a French ship, bound first from Dieppe on behalf of the French West India Company to French factors in Guinea, Senegal and Cape Verde, laden with iron bars and merchandise, and there took on a return cargo of gum, hides, wax, and elephant's teeth; also several letters from Goree to Amsterdam were brought on board at Cape Verde by"negroes" [free or enslaved is unclear], not by any Dutch, and more letters came from a French ship, and a French factor, Laurence Godebout came as passenger with his own papers including many Dutch letters from Goree for delivery; taken on 9 September 1665 between Falmouth and Plymouth by HMS Unity (Trafford commanding) and brought into Portsmouth.
