Description

Extract from 'Southern Railway Magazine', January 1940 pages 24 to 25, 'William Stroudley a Man Who Made Railway History', by Ralph Stent, outline of work of the former London, Brighton and South Coast Railway Locomotive, Carriage and Marine Superintendent Superintendent (originally printed in the Brighton 'Evening Argus'), with caricature of Stroudley and photographic illustration, and four cuttings from the same journal:

1) [c.1942] ''Bill' Ewens Looks Back', letter from A G Ewens, former employee, reminiscing about Stroudley.

2) June [1939] 'Engine 'Old Timers'', three photographic illustrations of locomotives, Stroudley 'D1' class 0-4-2 tank engine No 363 'Upperton' and R. Billinton 'E3' class 0-6-2 tank engine No 460 'Warminghurst', London, Brighton and South Coast Railway, and South Eastern and Chatham Railway 'A' class 0-4-4 tank engine No 570.

3) [c.1939] letter from R R Randall in response to 2, brief history of 'D1' class locomotive 'Upperton'.

4) [c.1942] two letters recalling old London Brighton and South Coast Railway four-wheeler carriages used on London suburban lines before electrification.
