Description

This series contains handwritten, press and carbon copies of all the Director and the Museum Secretary's outgoing official letters and memoranda. DF 1001/1 - 58 contain counterparts to the incoming documents in the Letters and Reports Series (DF 1000), while DF 1001/59 - 204 relate to subjects covered by the Case and Policy files (DF 1004). Topics covered are administrative rather than scientific, and relate to the business of the Trustees, relations with the British Museum and other institutions, personnel and financial matters, major gifts, purchases and bequests, and departmental matters.

Arrangement

Papers are arranged chronologically and were bound or pasted into volumes every few years. The practice was discontinued in 1978.
