Folios 94-95. Lord Gower [to Duke of Newcastle] seeking mercy for [Jacobite] Sir David Murray, after being urged to do so by a Roman Catholic neighbour whose sister is Sir David's mother. He also refers to his relationship to 'the secretary' [John Murray of Broughton]. Gower congratulates the Duke on 'the very great success of the Allies in Italy', laments the delay of the 'American expedition', and refers to 'secretly and scandalously propagated' rumours concerning his own family. Dated at Trentham [Staffordshire].
