Description

Folios 66-67. Certificate of M [Michael] Foster concerning Eleanor Haydon. Convicted at Somerset assizes for murdering her bastard child. Copy of examination of nurse annexed. Enclosures:

1. Folios 68-69. Petition of some principal inhabitants of Bridgewater [Somerset], on behalf of Eleanor Haydon. Request for free pardon or sentence commuted to transportation. Signed by: A Taylor; Ben [Benjamin] Burroughs; John Hill; Robt [Robert] Street; Tho [Thomas] Laroche; Alexr [Alexander] Lean; David Webber; Jonath [Jonathan] Chubb; J Harvey; John Pearse;?Jerah [Jeremiah] Dewdney; Thos [Thomas] Bessem; John Mounsher; John?Damon; Jam [James] Watts. Note on reverse from Earl of Chesterfield, referring petition to Justice Foster for his opinion.

2. Folios 70-71. Examination of Hannah Martin, nurse at Bridgewater almshouse. Concerns the death of male bastard child of Eleanor Haydon and belief that Haydon 'laid violent hands on her said child'. Taken before John Sealy, mayor and coroner of Bridgewater, on 10 December 1746.
