Description

Prisoner name: Charles Steel (or Charles Steele).

Prisoner age: 22 years.

Court and date of trial: Central Criminal Court 4 January 1838.

Crime: Robbery.

Initial sentence: 15 years transportation.

Gaoler's report: 'Character not known.'

Annotated (Outcome): Nil.

Petitioner(s): 55 inhabitants of St Albans [Hertfordshire] including George Alfred Muskett MP. The prisoner's father James Steel.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Prisoner of previous good conduct from respectable family but fell in to bad company; prisoner supports his aged parents.
