Prisoner name: Richard Stewart.

Prisoner age: 36 years.

Prisoner occupation: Farmer.

Court and date of trial: Ayr Circuit Court, 7 September 1837.

Crime: Forgery, a bill for £13 0s 0d.

Initial sentence: Transportation for life.

Gaoler's report: 'Character not known. Respectable connections.'

Annotated (Outcome): 'Nil'.

Petitioner(s): Nine supporters including [David Simond], Provost of Ayr.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Unfortunate events and reduced circumstances lead the prisoner to commit the crime, his first offence; prisoner has a young wife and an aged mother.

Other papers: Letter from [J Dunlop] forwarding the petition.
