Prisoner name: Timothy Evans.
Prisoner age: 30 years.
Court and date of trial: Bristol Sessions, January 1837.
Crime: Stealing tobacco.
Initial sentence: Seven years transportation.
Gaoler's report: 'Behaved [well] in prison'.
Annotated (Outcome): 'Nil'.
Petitioner(s): 23 respectable people from Cardiff, including the mayor, alderman, magistrates and councillors.
Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner is of previous good character; the prisoner was taken advantage of by bad company when he was under the influence of drink; the prisoner had no character witnesses at his trial because he was tried 40 miles from his home; the prisoner has behaved well in prison.
Other papers: Letter from [N R Nichole] forwarding a letter from [Elijah Waring] and the petition.
Additional Information: Prisoner sent to Ganymede convict hulk. Prisoner's home was in Cardiff.
