Prisoner name: David Elliott.
Prisoner occupation: Lately [servant] to Reverend J N Freeman (Vicar of Hayes, Middlesex).
Court and date of trial: Old Bailey, May Sessions 1832.
Crime: Housebreaking, into the house of his late master and stealing a sum of money and other articles.
Initial sentence: Death commuted to transportation for life.
Annotated (Outcome): 'Considered at Report in Council 17 July 1832'.
Petitioner(s): H E St John (Rector of Barkham, Berkshire, convict's parents' parish priest), undersigned by 86 inhabitants of Barkham and Wokingham [Berkshire] and their environs, including county magistrates and parish officers. James Elliott (father) undersigned by the Vicar of Hayes [Middlesex] (late employer) and two churchwardens.
Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Convict's previous excellent character; his parents' excellent character; his contrition; good character since transportation; the stolen items and money were restored to the victim.
Additional Information: He was transported to Bermuda and held on board the Antelope convict hulk at St George's Island. His parents live at Biggs Farm, Barkham, Berkshire. Further correspondence on the same case in HO 17/27/76 (old reference CR 33).
