- OD 50/1-2 were selected for permanent preservation following an accelerated review process under the Open Government Initiative in the Overseas Development Administration which identified certain subjects whose records could be released early, including these files on the establishment of the British Development Division in the Pacific.

The Caribbean and Pacific Department (1979-1981) was succeeded by the Caribbean, Pacific and Latin American Department (1981-1982), the Latin American, Caribbean and Pacific Department (1982-1989), the Caribbean and Atlantic Department (1989-1990) and the Latin America, Caribbean and Atlantic Department (1990-), dealing with the provision of development aid to these geographical areas. Initially the Department only dealt with non-dependent territories in the Caribbean, as aid to dependent territories continued to be provided in co-operation with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office until 1984.
