This series contains correspondence and papers of the general administrative divisions or sections and the Directorate of Establishments of the Ministry of Public Building and Works, its predecessors and successors. The papers relate principally to matters of general policy affecting the executive divisions, including Contracts, Finance and Supplies, and to the whole range of the work of organisation and establishment.
Amongst these papers are files relating to the building of coast guard stations, grain silos, hostels and oil pipe lines.
Most files were were originally in the AG and AH series, although there are files from numerous other series as well, including AR, DCA, EK and HEA. Files raised at later dates were given new prefixes. A number of earlier papers are in unregistered folders. Some files date from after the creation of the Department of the Environment.
