This series contains correspondence and papers and registered files relating to the acquisition of sites or existing buildings for embassies, consulates and other establishments overseas; the construction and conversion of the individual buildings; their equipment and furnishing, including the supply of pictures; and their subsequent maintenance or disposal.
The series also includes some general files, mainly of the 1950s to 1970s, concerning the ministry's responsibilities for and management of diplomatic buildings overseas.
Most of the files were registered in the AC and EO series, although some earlier papers are in unregistered folders. Some files date from after the creation of the Department of the Environment and the Property Services Agency.
