Description

Captured ship: La Vierge Marie [of Riga] (master Andreas Cassar).

History: a French [Russian] merchant ship, seized on 6/17 October 1744 in port at Plymouth by HMS Baltimore (Thomas Cleland commanding).

  • [CP 1-CP 4]: standing interrogatories, two examiantions, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 5]: claim;
  • [CP 6]: allegation;
  • [CP 7]: sea protest;
  • [CP 8-CP 9]: translations of the ship's papers [many returned].

Ship's papers, numbered SP 1-SP 2, SP 5, bill of lading, charerparty, customs paper.

[Decision: restored, 14 December 1744; afterwards appealed, and cargo condemned]
