Description

Captured ship: Le Royal Philippe of Bordeaux (master François Foucaud otherwise Fouceaud or Fourand).

History: a French ship (260 tons, 14 guns, 48 men), bound from Bordeaux to Saint Domingue, laden with flour, wine, linen, salt, oil; taken on 8/19 October 1747 in latitude 40°N by HMS Centurion (Peter Dennis commanding), and brought into Portsmouth.

  • [CP 12]: allegation, 22 March 1747/8;
  • [CP 13-CP 18]: 6 releases, brought into court 6 September-27 October 1748;
  • [CP 19-CP 20]: allegation, exhibited letter, interrogatories, brought into court 15 February 1749;
  • [CP 21-CP 22]: allegation, exhibited letter, interrogatories, brought into court 15 February 1749;
  • [CP 23-CP 26]: 4 further releases, brought into court 1748;
  • [CP 27-CP 28]: attestation as to papers, and abstracts and translations of the 6 ship's papers.

Ship’s Papers numbered SP 1-SP 4, letter of marque, muster roll, ship's pass, customs paper.
