Description

Captured ship: Prince Charles (master George Powell, and as a French prize, Pierre Labarthe).

History: an English merchant ship (150 tons, 4 guns, 12 men, formerly L'Aimable Renote), bound from St Kitts to London, laden with sugar and rum; taken on 3/14 March 1745 in latitude 50°N by the French privateer L'Entreprenant (François Graciet commanding) but retaken on 8/19 March by the privateer Prince Charles (Charles Gwynn commanding) and brought into Bristol.

  • [CP 6]: attestation and claim;
  • [CP 7-CP 8]: commission of appraisement, appraisement;
  • [CP 9-CP 10]: attestation as to papers, translation of the letter of marque issued for L'Entreprenant.

Ships Papers numbered SP 1-SP 3, commission, bill of lading, ship's pass, all issued in St Kitts.

[Decision: restored paying 1/2 salvage, 8 August 1745]
