Description

Captured ship: Louis Sextus or Luegust (master Defeau).

History: a French merchant ship (80 tons, 2 guns, 16 men), bound from Canada to Bordeaux, laden with train oil; taken on 14/25 November 1747 by the privateer Saltash (George Powell commanding), and brought into Plymouth.

  • [CP 1-CP 3]: standing interrogatories, one examination, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 4-CP 6]: three attestations;
  • [CP 7]: allegation;
  • [CP 8]: abstract and translation of the 12 ship's papers.

Ship's Papers numbered SP 1, 1A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7A, 7B, 8, 9, 9A, 10, 10A, 11, 12 (all letters, most with address wrappers).

[Decision: condemned as prize, 25 February 1748]
