Description

Captured ship: Louis Michel (master Claude Olivro or Olivreau or Olivero).

History: a French coasting ship (26 tons, 4 men), bound from Lannion to Le Croisic, laden with salt; taken on 15/26 June 1744 by the privateer Squirrel (Nicolas le Couteur commanding), and brought into Jersey.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1-CP 3]: wrapper, three examinations, commissioner's affidavit and explanatory note stating them to be duplicates, as the previous papers were lost at sea, received at Doctors Commons in February 1745;
  • [CP 4-6]: three examinations, commissioner's affidavit and explanatory note as these paper (originals) were found washed up and stranded on the shore, sent 30 December 1744;
  • [CP 7]: allegation;
  • [CP 8-CP 9]: attestation as to papers, and abstract and translation of the 5 ship's papers.

Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-SP 5.

[Decision: condemned as prize, 7 May 1745]
