Description

Captured ship: Juffrouw Judith Jacoba (master Jan Seylaer) [first capture].

History: a Dutch merchant ship (70 tons, 7 men and 1 boy), bound from Newcastle upon Tyne via Rotterdam to Rochefort, laden with lead and coals; taken on 16/27 April 1747 between Dover and Calais by the privateer Endeavour (Robert Croussevall commanding), and brought into Dover.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: attestation and claim of the master;
  • [CP 7]: allegation;
  • [CP 8-CP 9]: 2 sets of attestations, affidavits and translations taken and sealed by the ruling authorities of Rotterdam, in May 1747 and brought into court 26 May 1747;
  • [CP 10-CP 11]: attestation as to papers, and abstract and translation of the 11 ship's papers [all of these papers were restored].

[Decision: restored as a Dutch ally 29 June 1747, but was afterwards retaken by another British privateer (see HCA 32/120/21A).]
