Description

Captured ship: La Concepcion otherwise La Pura y Limpia Concepcion (master Juan Gonzales).

History: a Spanish ship (230 tons, 30 men; New England built, and formerly the English ship Anne taken by Spain, and bought for the King's service), bound from Pasajes for Cartagena as a supply ship, laden with beef, flour, pork and nails; taken on 6/17 August 1741 off Cape Machichaco by HMS Assistance (Roger Martin commanding), and brought into Portsmouth.

  • [CP 7-CP 8]: allegation for HMS Kingston (Richard Norris commanding)and HMS Nassau for joint capture, 23 October 1741; with a copy of an agreement to share any prizes between the three naval ships, July 1741;
  • [CP 9-CP 11]: releases of interest by John Holman and others of HMS Kingston;
  • [CP 12-CP 14]: commission, a copy of the allegation at [CP 6], and Captain Martin's responses to the allegation, 1741;
  • [CP 15-CP 16]: two copies of an allegation on behalf of HMS Assistance against HMS Kingston, 1743;
  • [CP 17]: release of interest by some mariners of HMS Assistance, 1748;
  • [CP 18]: special interrogatories on behalf of HMS Kingston, undated;
  • [further examinations upon an allegation of 1743, but taken in 1748, are at HCA 13/91, folios 119-20];
  • [CP 19]: abstract and translation of the 5 ship's papers.
