Folio(s) 349-352. Letter from Robert Somerville of Haddington [East Lothian] expressing strong agreement with the Home Secretary's public pronouncements on the state of the country, denouncing Friendly Societies as indirect propagators of sedition, recommending that relief should never be given in money but be restricted to meal, bread and other necessary articles at prices ruling in 'ordinary years', the differences to market prices being made up by landlords and tenants in country parishes and, in towns, by proprietors and occupiers of houses. Somerville encloses a periodical [not present] in which he had written an article on the subject.
