The Immigration and Nationality Directorate (IND) was part of the Home Office and was responsible for inward migration to the UK, asylum applications and the recognition of refugees, nationality and citizenship and the removal and deportation of immigration offenders. On 1 April 2007 it was replaced by the Border and Immigration Agency.
