Letter from Robert Power, Deputy District Auditor, for Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire, to the Poor Law Board, giving his report for the half-year ended Michaelmas 1857 on the books kept by George Mart, Collector, South Normanton, Mansfield Poor Law Union.In the Rate Book, Mart had entered as 'excused' amounts which were not excused by magistrates; this meant that the monthly statements and arrears shown were wrong.
In the Rate Received check book, the dates were entered only in pencil or not at all. The number of cheques in the book was noted but not declared to be correct.
Mart pays out only monthly and not weekly.
