Description

Prisoner name(s): Daniel Grey [Gray] of Wakefield.

Prisoner occupation: Soldier in 1st Garrison Battalion; five years under General Maitland in Malta;

Court and date of trial: Midsummer Sessions 1825 for the West Riding of York.

Crime: Fraud.

Initial sentence: Six months imprisonment.

Annotated (Outcome): Nil.

Petitioner(s): Prisoner.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Prisoner is only support of wife and distressed family; first offence; discharged without a pension in 1816; his father and brother also served in army; he enlisted at age 12.

Other papers: Sir H Taylor forwarding the petition.

Additional Information: In Wakefield House of Correction; petition addressed to the Duke of York, Commander in chief of His Majesty's Land Forces.
