Description

Prisoner name(s): Timothy Grogan; Matthew White (Mathew White).

Prisoner age: Both aged 12.

Court and date of trial: Old Bailey September Sessions in 1830.

Crime: Stealing books: money to the value of 1/9½d 15 August 1830.

Initial sentence: Seven years transportation.

Gaoler's report: Timothy Grogan: 'not known here'. Matthew White: 'here before.'

Annotated (Outcome): Nil.

Petitioner(s): Maria White and Esther Grogan (prisoners' mothers).

George Howell (employer of Matthew White's father) of 8 Milton Street, Dorset Square, Marylebone, [London].

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoners have never before committed an offence; previous good character; their ages; parents are distressed; father an industrious employee.

Other papers: A letter from George Howell (employer of Matthew White's father) of 8 Milton Street, Dorset Square, Marylebone, [London] forwarding the petition.
