Description

Prisoner name(s): George Price.

Prisoner age: 18.

Prisoner occupation: Army and previously employed by Thomas Hanson a spectacle frame maker of Stafford Street, Wolverhampton, [Staffordshire].

Court and date of trial: Stafford Epiphany Quarter Sessions in 1828.

Crime: Larceny. The prisoner was convicted alongside William Moss and Thomas Adamson of stealing seven silk purses belonging to Joseph Jeavoris of Wolverhampton, [Staffordshire].

Initial sentence: Seven years transportation.

Gaoler's report: Connected with thieves at Wolverhampton and has been long engaged in petty thefts.

Annotated (Outcome): Nil.

Petitioner(s): John Price (prisoner's father) a locksmith of Wolverhampton, Staffordshire undersigned by 19 people. The petition is signed by Joseph Jeavoris (prosecutor) and Thomas Hanson (prisoner's former employer).

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The sorrow of the prisoner's aged parents; the prisoner's father faithfully served the King's father as a soldier and marine in the American Revolutionary War and the late French War; the prisoner's father was a soldier for 20 years and now receives a pension of 1/- per day; the prisoner's father is 67 years old; the prisoner's father is so sorrowful over the prisoner's conduct that he has more grey hairs; the prisoner is truly penitent; the prisoner's character was irreproachable during his time in the army and after he returned home; Thomas Hanson is willing to offer the prisoner employment.
