The DSS prefix was created in July 1994 and replaced the SSP prefix which was created in 1981 (this succeeded the SS prefix which was in existence in 1975). The successor prefix to DSS was SS2 which opened in January 1998 but was short lived due to the introduction of digital record keeping at Treasury from 1998.
