High Court of Admiralty.
Captured ship: Martha (master John Boorman).
History: an American merchant ship (sloop, 80 tons), bound from St Martin, West Indies to Providence, Rhode Island [or Boston, Massachusetts] laden with rum, coffee, limes, salt, sugar; taken on 24 August 1777 a few leagues from Rhode Island by Lady Parker, tender to HMS Chatham (Toby Caulfield commanding), and brought into Rhode Island, but condemned in the High Court of Admiralty as there was then no vice-admiralty court at Rhode Island or New York.
Court papers: 1-3; Ship's papers: 4. [These are interim paper numbers, and are likely to change once more fully catalogued].
