Captured ship: Cheese Knife of Folkestone (master William Watson).
History: an English merchant ship [a smuggler] (12 tons, 7 men), bound from Folkestone, via Dunkirk, to Lisbon, laden with uncustomed gin and tea; taken on 17 June 1781 about 4 leagues off North Foreland by HMS Surprize cutter (Peter Rivett commanding), and brought into the Downs.
Court papers: 1-8; Ship's papers: 9-9. [These are interim paper numbers, and are likely to change once more fully catalogued].
