By Act made 6th George III, cap.94 (1766), Commissioners were appointed for making River Soar navigable from River Trent to Bishops Meadow in Liberty of Garorton in County of Leicester but powers granted were not sufficient to impower Commissioners to pursue plan recommended by Brindley and further Act was passed dated 2nd April 1776 appointing certain persons Undertakers for making Navigation and therein incorporated by name "Company of Proprietors of Navigation from River Trent to Town of Loughborough".
By virtue of Grand Union Canal (Leicester Canals Purchase &c.) Act of 31st July 1931, Loughborough Navigation was purchased by, and vested in Grand Union Canal Company which latter Company was vested in British Transport Commission under Transport Act 1947.
