Description

Prisoner name: James Harris.

Prisoner age: 23.

Court and date of trial: Kent Quarter Sessions held at St Augustine's, Canterbury 1 May 1829.

Crime: Receiving stolen goods.

Initial sentence: 14 years' transportation.

Gaoler's report: 'Abandoned character and behaved insolently in Court - 3 times before in Prison and twice convicted. Connected with thieves and prostitutes and former course of life most dissolute'.

Annotated: Nil.

Petitioner(s): The convict.

Grounds for clemency: Admits to using 'a harsh expression' in court towards a witness who deposed falsely against him; his youth and previous good character.

Additional Information: The convict is from Ramsgate, Kent.
