Incorporated 8th July 1853. By act of 21st July 1856, line was leased to London, Brighton & South Coast Railway Company and was transferred to that Company absolutely on 1st January 1866. London, Brighton & South Coast Railway Company became part of Southern Railway Company under Railways (Southern Group) Amalgamation Scheme 1922 dated 22nd December 1922.
