Description

Folios 238-239: Robert O'Brien, Regulating Captain, Limerick. Acknowledges receipt of Admiralty letter of 27 April enclosing two Petitions from two seaman who were recently impressed and sent in the Landrail to Cork for conveyance to the fleet but is not acquainted with the circumstances stated in the petitions. John Humphryes, Ordinary Seaman, was impressed by the Gang on 16 April on shore, aged 21 and volunteered after. Alan Carmichael, Able Seaman, aged 28 was also impressed by Gang on shore the same evening. He had been Mate of a brig going from Limerick to Belfast.

Folio 240: enclosure with folios 238-249. Petition of Allan Carmichael of Argyle, Scotland. States that he had been impressed out of the Helen of Greenock, as an Ordinary Seaman, in the Port of Limerick. He has aged Mother and helpless family solely dependant on him for support. Dated 22 April 1812.

Folio 241: enclosure with folios 238-239. Petition of John Humphryes who was impressed in city of Limerick. He has aged parents to support in England and would provide two substitutes or pay £30 for his liberation. Dated 21 April 1812.
