Folios 451-452: Henry Edward Napier, HMS Rifleman, Spithead. Reply to letter dated 8 July 1815 acquainting him that Mr John McCormick late of HMS Thracian has been appointed Gunner of HMS Rifleman in lieu of Mr John Ashwood who be a second letter of the same date he perceive that have not thought proper to confirm to that situation. In reply to the latter as it appears that Mr John Ashwood will not get promotion he requests that he be discharged from the service he being a young man of some property and good expectations in the merchant Service (Promotions in His Majesty's Service being now unobtainable) and he has a Mother and Family which depend on him.
