Folios 429-430: Thomas New, Lewisham, Kent. States:- A false report, injurious to him as an Officer & a Gentleman, has been handed about in the Navy, and reaching the ears of his friends, they desire of him an explanation - namely, that at some period during the term of Captain Peter Spicer was Regulating Officer at Swansea he made a Compliant of him to the Board with a view to his obtaining his situation, and which he is said to have then solicited!! He held the above Post from the beginning of the War until 1810, when in consequence of new arrangement, he was superseded by Captain Peter Spicer. He request a search be made amongst the records - whether any complaint was ever made by him against Captain Peter Spicer, or if he ever made application for the said situation; and that they will have the kindness to acquaint him with the results; together with stating, that no impression had been made against him in their Lordships minds in consequence; the latter having also been insinuated.
