Folios 226-227: James Newman Newman, HMS Hero, Downs. Refers to enclosed letters from correspondence that took place at Gothenburg between Baron Silfworskiold, Alexander Rosen the governor of Gothenburg and Holmstedt the governor of Carlsten Castle concerning a Danish privateer cutter heavily armed carrying thirty men. The vessel was taken by Lieutenant Norton but the prize was later fired upon by five hundred Swedish fighters when midshipman Ireland of HMS Dictator was killed.
Folios 228-229: enclosure with folios 226-227. Letter dated 28 September 1810 by Admiral James Saumarez, Admiralty Office. Refers to correspondence forwarded to the Admiralty by Captain Newman of HMS Hero between the three officials named in folios 226-227 and concerning the capture of a Danish Privateer. The letter has been amended and is marked 'to be kept as a minute' with a copy to be sent to Lord Arthur Wellesley and to Admiral Dixon.
Folios 230-231: enclosure with folios 226-227. Initialled Y, Admiralty, 27 September 1810, heavily amended note stating that Admiral Saumarez should be acquainted with their Lordships views of Captain Newman's conduct.
Folios 232-233: enclosure with folios 226-227. James Newman Newman, HMS Hero, Wingo Sound, 14 September 1810 writes to Admiral Saumarez giving a considered and detailed account of the encounter with a Danish privateer and subsequent developments.
Folios 236-237: enclosure with folios 226-227. Commandant F [?Colmstealt], Carlsten Castle, 17 September 1810 writes to James Newman stating that he will release the English prisoners as soon as orders are received from the Swedish authorities arrive. He refers to an attempt made to cut out vessels from under the guns of the castle.
Folios 238-239: enclosure with folios 226-227. Axel Rosen, Gothenburg, 16 September 1810 writes in a foreign language to James Newman.
Folios 240-241: enclosure with folios 226-227. Commandant [?Tilfwerskiolch], Gothenburg, 17 September 1810 writes in a foreign language to James Newman.
Folio 242: enclosure with folios 226-227. James Newman Newman, HMS Hero writes to the governor of Carlston Castle.
Folios 243: enclosure with folios 226-227. A further letter from James Newman to the governor of Carlsten Castle.
Folio 235: enclosure with folios 226-227. Axel Rosen writes to James Newman stating that it is not in his power to decide the fate of English prisoners.
Folio 234: enclosure with folios 226-227. James Newman Newman writes to the governor of Gothenburg and after providing more details of recent events he asks whether England and Sweden are at war. He is also concerned about the proper burial of the late Mr Ireland.
