Folios 82-83: Donald McLeod, Regulating Captain, Liverpool. Replying to Admiralty letter of 13 July states from the books at the Rendezvous that Samuel Quomino was impressed by Lieutenant Clarke on 11 July as an Ordinary Seaman aged 20 years, 5ft 6in high born on coast of Africa. Remarks say he"he is Black Man and has no protection". Returns enclosure.
Folios 84-85: enclosure with folios 82-83. Letter from Hammett Roscoe and Wilson, Liverpool to Admiralty dated 11 July 1810. States that a poor African Boy was impressed that morning and sent on board HMS Princess. He is a free native of the coast of Africa and employed by the ships trading there as a [?]. He was brought against his wishes by Captain Griffiths of the Beresford and arrived on 16 June. By accident he met one of our Captains who was on the point of sailing to Africa and although not speaking English made known his situation. We promised him a passage and he has since been attending the ship. Requests his discharge.
