Folios 238-239: Jonathan Joyce, HMS Discovery (Bomb [Vessel]), Nore. He informs that on desiring the Commanding Officer of Artillery on HMS Discovery to place part of his Men as Centinels [Sentinels], he acquainted him that he had been informed by the Officers of his Corps it was not customary, that his Med did not come on board to do the duty of Royal Marines but to attend to the Mortars. Request to be told what the customary practice is. He had written to Admiral Lord Keith [George Keith Elphinstone (1st Viscount Keith)] who referred him to their Lordships.
Folio 240: Enclosure with folios 238-239. [Admiralty note] Send the Board of Ordnance a copy of the letter from Lord Keith (or Rear Admiral [?]) and a copy my answer and inform them that their Lordships have sent direction to Lord Keith [George Keith Elphinstone (1st Viscount Keith)] to explain to the Commander of HMS Discovery that the [?
